Treatment of Acne and Vascular Malformations
Nlite is a type of laser using the power of amplified light and dye pigment to create energy used in the successful treatment of acne, and vascular blemishes (for example port-wine stains). Nlite is the only laser widely studied and proven in its efficacy for treatment of acne. The before and after photos shown below illustrate an example of using N-Lite for the treatment of a severe case of port-wine staining. The after result was obtained after six sessions.

How does it work?
Laser energy gets absorbed by damaged, pigmented and aged skin cells or red blood cells in the lumen of dilated unsightly blood vessels. These cells subsequently die and new skin cells take their place. The blood vessels close and fade away under the influence of laser emission. Biologically active chemicals called cytokines, are produced in the skin, they stimulate skin cells specialising in new collagen production. Skin gets healthier, radiant and firmer and texture is greatly improved.
How is it done?
After an initial consultation a doctor does a patch test to identify the safest and the most effective laser setting. Patients are asked not to smoke on the day of treatment as this reduces effectiveness. Sometimes skin is prepared prior to treatment with special pigment stabilising creams for 2 weeks. During treatment both the patient and the therapist are required to wear protective goggles. These prevent the laser accidentally damaging the eyes. A hand piece is gently placed in contact with the patient's skin and energy is released. By moving the hand piece the operator treats the target area of skin sometimes overlapping and going over the same spot. To do the whole face takes about 15 minutes.
Does it hurt?
No, most patients only report slightly hot prickly sensation. If necessary anaesthetic cream is applied before treatment.
What are the contraindications?
Pregnancy, breastfeeding, cancer in active stage, tendency to scar or pigment badly, some medication increasing photosensitivity, previous adverse reaction to laser, deep chemical peel or if the patient has had skin re-surfacing in the last 4-6 weeks.
What is aftercare?
Patients are slightly red for a half an hour following the treatment. It is generally advised not to use any moisturisers for 2 hours after the procedure as some soothing creams can reduce effects of the therapy. Patients should wear SPF factor 50 or 60 applied liberally to avoid unwanted hyper-pigmentation. Avoid smoking first few hours.
How many sessions are needed?
Normally 3-4 sessions 4-6 weeks apart, the effects are noted even after one session. Benefits become apparent slowly over periods of a few weeks.
Can Nlite laser treatment be combined with other treatments?
Nlite can be used to enhance the effects of treatments such as Sculptra, mesotherapy and Gold Filaments. This laser can be used with other rejuvenation treatments such as Botox, Dermal fillers, mini face lift and microdermabrasion.
